PRT Armstrong is located in the historic Spallumcheen Valley, plant hardiness zone 5 and midway between Vernon and Armstrong. This transitional area is situated between the arid Okanagan Valley to the south and the cooler, forested Shuswap Valley to the north. Since acquiring this bareroot nursery site in October 1998, PRT has converted production to container grown seedling crops. The nursery is situated on 70 ha (173 acres) with an annual production of 21 million open compound and 3 million 1+0 greenhouse grown crops. All commercial tree species planted in Canada and the western United States can be grown at PRT Armstrong. The nursery also operates a number of Seed Orchards that produce high quality interior Douglas-fir and lodgepole pine seed. The nursery office complex serves as a central administration centre for PRT.
PRT Armstrong offers a full range of standard seedling products and related nursery services, and specializes in the following areas:
1+0 Open Compound Crops for Spring Planting - the warm summers and mild winters in the area are ideal for the production of high quality, outdoor grown lodgepole pine, jack pine and black spruce. These well-conditioned, light-adapted seedlings are economical and provide high value.
Seedlings for Summer Planting - custom growing programs provide well-conditioned 1+0 crops for mid to late June summer delivery.
Specialty Crops - PRT Armstrong has developed expertise in growing high quality crops of difficult to grow species, such as interior Douglas-fir.
