PRT Campbell River is located in the coastal maritime zone, plant hardiness zone 8a, at Campbell River, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island.
This nursery has a land base of 100 ha (250 acres). Annual production consists of 12 million container seedlings and 1.5 million plug transplants. Container seedling production includes both 1+0 greenhouse and 2+0 open compound crops. All commercial tree species planted in Canada and the western United States are grown at PRT Campbell River.
PRT Campbell River offers a full range of standard seedling products and related nursery services, and specializes in the following areas:
Large Seedlings - for coastal sites with brush and animal problems. These are generally produced as 1+0 container seedlings, including Brush Buster™ Seedlings, which are grown in large containers of up to 1,000 ml (61 cu in), or as field-grown plug transplants.
Seedlings for Summer and Fall Planting - custom growing programs provide well-conditioned seedlings for summer and fall planting.
True Firs - through seed upgrading and specially developed growing programs, PRT Campbell River is a premier producer of these specialty crops.
2+0 Container Seedlings - the maritime climate provides an excellent environment for the production of 2+0 container seedlings due to minimal risk of root injury during the winter. These well-conditioned, robust and well-balanced plants are economical and provide high value, especially for sites that are subject to vegetative competition and/or snowpress. They are typically used for summer and fall planting on sites where moisture is not limiting, but can also be used for spring planting if grown in large containers.
