Silviculture Services - PRT Frontier

We provide silviculture services in Ontario through PRT Frontier. Based at the PRT Dryden nursery, we’ve planted more than 185 million trees in northwestern Ontario. We have the experience and resources to accommodate special customer requirements, including custom silviculture programs. And our high tree-planter return rate ensures excellent quality and high production rates.

We specialize in the following silviculture services:


  • Tree planting. We provide stock handling and planting services of all speciesThe basic unit of biological classification. ‘Fir’ and ‘pine’ are two examples of species classifications.  and stocktypes. Services include pickup from nurseries, transportation, on-site storage and care, and planting of current and over-winter stock

  • Grow and plant. PRT Frontier and the PRT Dryden offer customers shortened plantation establishment supply chains and improved plantation survival and performance through custom grow-and-plant contracts.

  • Pre-commercial thinning. Specializing in the Stihl™ 550 brush saw, we have the know-how and manpower to space the densest stands. And our experienced cutters can meet any spacing requirement.

  • Cone collection. We have the equipment and expertise to collect large volumes of high-quality cones. We provide a full range of cone and seed services in conjunction with several PRT nurseries. These services include cone collection, cone storage, seed extraction, viability testing, seed upgrading, seed storage and seed withdrawal and nursery allocation.

  • Regeneration surveys. PRT Frontier specializes in regeneration surveys and survival assessments and develops programs to comply with regulatory requirements and customer needs.

  • Vegetation control. We’re licensed to apply herbicides in tree plantations. And our qualified applicators are experienced in broadcast spraying and basal bark treatments.
